Our Lady of the Rosary
July 14, 2022Our Lady of the Rosary is a title given to Mary, mother of Jesus Christ, by those who believe that the intercession of the Virgin Mary is responsible for their salvation. In 1206, a young priest, Dominic de Guzmán, was in France trying to convert individuals back to Catholic faith. After seeing very little success he would eventually have a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary and was given a rosary as a tool to fight against heretics.
Our Lady Of Victory
Due to increased threats to Christian nations by Ottoman Turks, Pope Pius V proposed a crusade. In 1571, when their fleets were heavily outnumbered, they engaged in battle with the Turks and by the end of the day the Turks were defeated and over 12,000 Christians were released from captivity. On the same day of their victory, the Rosary Confraternity of Rome went to the Dominican Church and prayed for the victory. After finding out that the crusade had ended in a victory, it was attributed to the intercession of the Virgin Mary. To commemorate the religious victory, Pope Pius V created a feast day.
Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary
The feast day falls on October 7th and is also known as the Feast of Our Lady of Victory. It commemorates the victory of Christian forces over the Ottoman.
