Competing with 18 prominent vestment designers, Gaspard, Inc. of Wisconsin received second place in an international design contest launched in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Cathedral of Monaco. The three finalist were chosen by a jury presided over by Princess Caroline of Hanover. The winning chasubles remain at the Cathédrale de Monaco.
For Gaspard, this award acknowledges a point of distinction within the religious garment industry. While many companies have moved their manufacturing overseas, Gaspard continues to hand craft their vestments, paraments, and other religious garments. The award-winning chasuble is a perfect example of the attention to detail that sets Gaspard apart – the embroidery on the chasuble, collar and understole that has over 1 million stitches alone! The design and production for the award-winning chasuble was a team effort that took nearly four months.
This beautiful chasuble is made of high quality duponi silk with gold satin lining. The flowers that encircle the chasuble and fill the design are dogwood flowers, symbolic of Christ's crown of thorns.
